Capturing the beauty of nature and expressing those impressions in oil paint is a joy. Every hour of the day presents new possibilities and keeps even the same landscape location, same composition, an ongoing and beckoning challenge. For this reason, I love painting series: it is exploration made visual. |
My plein air work has become more a painting 'shorthand' where I am concerned with collecting 'color' notes as quickly as possible. These 'notes' then become my more reliable reference for the less urgent, and more contemplative studio work.
While nature provides a source of endless inspiration, I am also inspired by the work of numerous artists, both living and deceased. My 'favourites' list changes frequently, however, Monet, John Singer Sargent, Benjamin Brown, Donna Schuster, Gustav Klimt, Edgar Payne, James Whistler, William Ritschel, Alson Clark, and Frank Cuprien, and others, are always on that list.
