Born in Colombo, May 10, 1938, I was educated at St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka, and at London School of Economics (University of London) UK. I received no formal training in art, but benefited from the opportunities of visiting famous galleries in England and France during my student days, and later during frequent business visits to Holland, Belgium, and Italy, including one memorable visit to Boston, USA, in 1984. The opportunity to paint full time happened on retirement from business prematurely in 1993, that turned out to be truly a blessing in disguise!
I enjoy painting primarily because it gives me great joy and pleasure. Happily, I discovered that my work resonated with others and I was blessed with the luxury of being paid for something I enjoyed doing. Sri Lanka (the late Ceylon) is an island of extraordinary beauty and it is small wonder then that I most enjoy painting it's magnificent landscapes, whenever possible direct from nature. I paint in the realist-impressionist style.
My mission is always to strive for excellence and attempt to convey the passion and emotion the subject has evoked to the best of my ability.
