Jerry Huff Artist Statement: I've been drawing and painting since I was handed a crayon and a scrap of butcher paper and told to use both sides and paint between the lines. I took every lesson offered, including all of the art classes the public school system provided, finishing with the Cornish School of Art in Seattle. After graduation I chose a career in advertising – one of the few fields in that era to place any value on creative design and good drawing skills. It was a time before computers, when advertisements, TV storyboards and branding work all had to be hand drawn as selling and directional material and exhibits.
While advertising was fulfilling, I have always maintained a home studio to exercise the more spiritual (or less commercial) side of my artistic endeavors. A painting kit was part of the packing process for vacations in which Claire, my wife, and I travelled over much of the planet.
My work is in many private and corporate collections and I've had a number of one-man shows.
I have remained true to realistic impressions of place and have included the human element whenever possible to make a more compelling and involving story. The last several years I've been painting watercolours of central B.C.'s Bella Coola and Cariboo and the north arm of the Fraser River which runs by my studio.
