She moved to Ottawa in 1978 and it didn't take long before the urge to create was back and she tried her hand at life drawing and watercolor and completed art classes at the Ottawa School of Art. She then began painting fabric and developed a line of hand painted clothing and more recently decorative cushions.

Now that she is retired from a career in Customer Relations Management, she has rediscovered the joy of painting. Her medium of choice is acrylic because it is both forgiving and versatile and allows Joanne to play with vibrant color. The area around Calabogie, Ontario provides Joanne with a continuous stream of inspiration for her art. She also loves figurative art and continues to participate in workshops to further explore this genre.
