Brief description of me and my work:
City kid from Chicago, transplanted to country life as preteen, but happier where there are trees and tall buildings. Daughter of painter/printer artist father and poet mother, foolishly I spent most adult years at various office jobs, apparently pretending I wasn't an artist, although every place I lived I managed to get paint all over my floors. Trying to draw me a map toward what I should really be doing?
A brief and fortuitous escape to Paris put me into that favored environment of tall buildings and trees (with not an office or boss to distract me) and brought things into focus for me, apparently brought me back to myself, really. And I brought that realization back with me, not to escape it anymore.
Drawing replaced painting as my dominant creative mode, as I now work to recreate the feeling of a particular group of Paris trees in my PARC Series; not so much to represent the trees themselves, but to abstract them to pure feeling.
The urban visuals in my work are suggestive of stage sets (my undergrad major was theatre), I discovered as I was struggling to title the work for my most recent show, 'Places I Want to Be'. Moving among tall buildings and trees . . .
