Marie is an artist specializing in creating rich, expressive surfaces. Influenced by artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Mark Rothko and Wolf Kahn, she implements the sophisticated core elements found in their work. |
Marie believes those who view her art will be rewarded with a soul-moving experience. Gazing deeply into her pieces will reveal layer upon layer of texture created by intense color combinations, often intermixed with metallics. A review of her body of work will reveal a wide variety of colors, shapes and textures.
Her artistic goal is to enhance lives by causing dynamic viewer reactions through use of saturated surfaces. Her hope is to convey the power inherent in color and texture so that people feel a range of emotions while viewing her work.
Color is a catalyst for a wide range of emotional responses: attraction, joy, comfort, aggression, unrest, to name only a few. Color plays an important role in the continuation of life. Birds’ feathers, eye color, body blushing—are all powerful sparks. Specific colors have proven effects on behavior, including red as agitator, blue as soother, yellow as uplifting. Marie’s sophisticated metallic surfaces with high contrast elements cause viewers to experience ancient as well as contemporary environments.
If, in her daily pursuit to create moving pieces, Marie manages to evoke emotions associated with comfort, joy, surprise, hope, healing or promise, then she is satisfied. If her work can be restorative or nurturing, then she believes her quest to create that next painting is valuable.
