Michelle Philip is a classically trained contemporary realist painter. She teaches drawing and painting at the Colorado Academy of Art, an ARC (Art Renewal Center) approved Classical Atelier. Michelle grew up in Zimbabwe, and now lives in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains with her husband and children. When not in the studio, Michelle can usually be found hanging out at the barn. |
Michelle is skilled in several different media: Oil, watercolor, pastel, egg tempera, encaustic, and drawing. Michelle has spent many years researching the techniques of the Old Masters, and has copied works by Vermeer, Velazquez, Rembrandt, Winterhalter, David, and Bouguereau. She also teaches classes in ancient media, such as Silverpoint drawing and Gilding.
Michelle has recently adopted the discipline of A Painting a Day. With her busy schedule of teaching and keeping up with commissions and masters copies, Michelle finds that these small daily paintings provide a personal and intimate time enclosure for painting spontaneously. She also paints large studio pieces, plein air landscape, and commissioned portraits.
