Phil Bates Artist Statement:
I am fascinated with the drama of light. A highlight on a branch, reflections in water, dappled illumination on a meadow, or brilliant sunlight on distant hills. All these have become my inspiration as an artist. Drawing on this passion, it is my pursuit to render beautiful landscapes that have a spark of both reality and mystery.
In another life I am CEO and creative director for Artbeats, a company that provides footage for movies, commercials and TV. My cinematography skills have helped greatly in my journey as a pastel artist.
Phil R. Bates' art has been accepted in multiple exhibitions and juried shows. In 2006 he won an Honorable Mention award in the Pastel Society of Oregon National Show. Other exhibitions include the Umpqua Valley Arts Association show entitled 'Images of a River' in April of 2007 as well as the Pastel Society of Oregon Internet Show, which will run through December 2007.
