Rodney MacKay Artist Portfolio: Art, History and English were the only subjects which had the power to retrieve me from the imaginary world of the doodle. Marcel Duchamp said 'art is a drug,' and as an adult it is the only sure means I have to escape from the grim realities of life.
I have now and then veered away from representational painting but have always had a tendency to keep my crayons within the lines of the colouring book. I therefore always come back to subject matter. Beyond that, I paint as I once coloured--alone, with full involvement, representing colour just as I see it in spite of the protests of those who live in a watered down world.
