Russell Hogger Artist Statement: Landscapes and people are the main source of subject matter for my paintings. I never consider a painting finished, only that it has reached a point of visual discovery that seems right. I am not a plein air painter. My outdoor sketching tool is a digital camera. Most of my re-occurring themes are of ravines and ponds in the Edmonton area and of the river valley. The main importance of my work is structure and structure as color.
