Tina Mammoser - Contemporary abstract acrylic paintings |
Tina Mammoser is an American artist living permanently in the UK. The cycling artist, her current abstract seascapes are based on a series of ongoing cycle journeys around the English coast, begun in 2005. On the trips she does sketches, paints watercolour studies and takes photographs to bring back to the studio. There she creates her larger acrylic paintings on canvas capturing the colours of the sea and sky, the light and weather of each specific place. |

Tina Mammoser Artist Statement: My paintings are abstract landscapes involving the presence of water since I have always lived near water (Lake Michigan, the Tay, the Thames). The underpainting, most of which is obscured in the end, entails a time-consuming process of many thin glazes and scumbles of colour in sweeping Turner-like style.
Recent paintings are an exploration of the relationship between horizontals on the picture plane, including the top and bottom edges of the canvas. In different proporations the areas represent shore, water and sky.
