For many years, I supported myself by operating a hair salon. As stylist I enjoyed using my artistic talents to create hairstyles for my clients. My other passion is tap dancing that I took up twenty years ago. I belong to group called the happy tappers. My dancing keeps me fit, gives me friendships, and gives other people pleasure too. I also sing in a German retired women's group and we entertain at seniors' homes.
When I was younger I wanted to paint! I could almost smell the oil paint that I didn't yet own. We moved to Ashcroft and that is where I first started to paint. My mother supported my interest in whatever I chose to do. I took as much art schooling as was provided in the public school.
I am a self-taught artist who has studied professional artists from DVD's, TV programs, and painting workshops wherever I could find them. In time, I learned how to mix colours and picked up the technical training I needed to produce work in a few different media; Oil, Acrylics, Watercolour, and Pastels. I have a long way to go to become a professional, probably years, but who cares? I am enjoying the journey.
When I start painting I forget time and I am in a world of my own. I do a fair amount of sketching and have a folder full of scenery and faces that interested me. I have done portraits in pastel but never in oils and that is my next project. As an artist there is always 'a next project' to inspire and please me. I belong to the Golden Palette club, and the Chilliwack Visual Artist association I am also a supporting member of the Federation of Canadian Artist. I love to paint.
