My Life “HAS BEEN FULL OF JOY !   …..   I believe the ability handed down to me through my family’s genes have blessed me with the gift of happiness as well as a talent that I have used continuously…. since my first memories ….. that of being able to draw almost anything I have set my mind to;  whether it was out of my inner conscience (includes lots of sketching & erasing) …..I call it practice !  Or from photos.   I have drawn anything and everything.
Drawing every day is what it takes!  Being a Portrait Painter,  I rely on using my camera….. it has given me a good sense of Composition….. Balance, proportion and Perspective.  I love painting Portraits of Fishing Boats …. And being a careful photographer,  insures I retain all the important details.  The wood grain of the dock;  the moving water reflecting on the white hulls in sunlight….. Beautiful detail!

“The Details tell the Story”!

Patricia Neil Lawton has been drawing from her earliest memories (in Powell River)….from three years and to this very day!  Her main interest in life was daydreaming and drawing.  She excelled in school only in “Art Classes;  English Literature (always included detailed illustrations); and Social Studies (detailed map drawing).”     Her professional career included :  A Vancouver Women’s & Children’s Fashion Store as Advertising Manager; plus (free lance) Fashion Illustrator for six other fashion, hardware, and leatherwear and shoe stores.  In 1982 Patricia was hired by the Heiltsuk Band in Waglisla, (Bella Bella) B.C.,  as Secondary School ‘Art Instructor’,  where she took up watercolour painting seriously.  On her return to Vancouver,  she moved to Vernon (in 1984) and  proceeded to teach night courses in Illustration & Advertising for “O.U.C.”  as she had formerly done at “Emily Carr” in Vancouver.  Many of Patricia’s favourite painting occasions have been her summer trips “on the road” teaching 3 & 4 day workshop at Colleges and Art Centres throughout B.C. …..  Mackenzie; Powell River ; Armstrong; Quesnel;  Kemano;  Prince Rupert,….. to name a few.  And teaching at “Summer School of the Arts” in Salmon Arm.  Many of her students have remained “life long” friends.  Hers has been a WONDERFUL Life!  And will remain so,  as she continues with her faithful Paint  Brushes.  Patricia’s favorite subjects are “Portraits that tell a Story”.
